The LexiKAN program features a unique kanji input method in which you can write calligraphy-style kanji characters with just the 'stroke' of the mouse. Any possible kanji character can be drawn stroke-by-stroke, by just clicking and moving the mouse. The pictures below show 'snapshots' of writing in progress while drawing the character for 'water'.
In the snapshots:

The pencil simulates the cursor position of the mouse... |

|
The red lines show the basic direction and motion of the mouse (though offset to be visible)... |
|
|
and the black strokes are the LexiKAN output strokes, created in real-time as you draw with the mouse. |
**NOTE: The pencil and red lines are not shown in LexiKAN, only here to help with this example.

The first vertical stroke is shown in three stages.... LexiKAN translates the simple motion of the mouse into a steady, smooth kanji stroke (the little hook on the end finishes the stroke). |

Next....this character input technique is used in two places in the LexiKAN program:
A) as a way to practice the correct drawing of a given character, or....
B) as a search input to a database/library to look-up the character
| A) Kanji
Practice In the kanji practice mode of LexiKAN, the program provides feedback on the correctness of your character. In this case, the last two strokes were written out of order - as indicated by the blue strokes. Other colors indicate other errors like incorrect strokes or partial strokes. This feedback can be given after finishing a full or partial character (as demonstrated here) or after each stroke is completed. |

Look-up If you are using the writing tool to search for a character in the database/dictionary, a list of matches like the one on the right would be shown from which the desired character can be selected (only the first database reading is shown). |
